Documentation Required to Purchase a Handgun in California
To purchase a handgun in California, customers must provide the following documentation at the time of purchase:
1. Valid California Driver License or ID Card
A current California Driver License or Identification Card is required.
The name on all documents must match.
The address on all documents must also match.
Documents cannot be expired, past due, or invalid.
2. Firearm Safety Certificate A valid Firearm Safety Certificate is required unless the customer qualifies for a state exemption.
3. Proof of California Residency : Additional proof of residency may be required depending on the type of identification presented.

Utility Bill with Service Address (must be dated within the last 90 days)
